The New Man
My colleague, The Office Slacker, was telling me that his girlfriend is leaving Singapore to work in London in 2 weeks time. She'll be paid 6000 pounds a month plus 3 to 6 months of bonus, which works out to be at least 60,000 pounds AFTER taxes... that is about $180000 in Singapore dollars...
He was exclaiming that after his girlfriend works in London for about 5 years, she'll come back and marry him and they'll be able to afford a nice condominium... fully paid (which means that he need not foot a single cent from his CPF excluding the downpayment)... I joked that he found himself a "rice bucket" (in hokkien please) and the thing that surprised me was that he was so estatic about the fact that he has found himself a "meal ticket" for life... and he even told his girlfriend that he is set for life...
It suddenly struck me that the words coming from The Office Slacker was something that I would be expecting from a woman, not a man...
Maybe we are facing a role reversal in the 21st Century...
Women are the New Man of the 21st Century...
I wonder if I'll look good in a skirt...
