I am so sad to know that I need an invite to your party...No more of your funny quirks...No more of your witty comments...No more of your fascinating but somewhat mis-guided life...No more knowing all the funny thoughts that run through your mind...No more...Company bitch... I struck a new low recently...I had an interview with a 37 year old man about a week ago... normally, I would have thought nothing of it and feel that it is common. However, what transpired during my talk with him really struck a chord inside me... the 37 year-old man actually cried during the interview when I asked him about his background and experience... the usual ass in me would have been laughing my head off and make all sorts of mean remarks and etc... but no... not this time...I mean he had really irritating characteristics... so much so that I almost fell asleep and was on the verge of wringing his neck... but his brief and few drops of tears really shook me...10 years apart... he being my senior... and the irony is that I am interviewing him for a position in my sales team and not vice versa. That was really awkward. The icing on the cake was the part when he teared when talking about the last job... and every 5 mins during our conversation, he would utter things like "I would really appreciate it if you would give me the opportunity to join the sales team and represent the company"...at that very instant, I felt so shitty... cos he is totally not suitable to sell the services of my company... and so I knew I had to reject him...People, don't take things for granted... NEVER NEVER take your family, friends, love, money, job, and etc for granted...You really don't know what is in store for you ahead...and I just got a glimspe of how things can end up... not a pretty picture...
Interview
Its amazing how many types of people will just apply for a job even though they are totally wrong for the job...lets see now...I am looking for young people with little or no sales experience so that I can train them, they should be preferably pretty or handsome (so that they wouldn't be rejected so often), they should have a pleasant voice (to fair better in cold calling), they must be streetsmart and have the gift of gab, and importantly, they must want to do sales...So who are the people who turned up???I had a guy say: "I am sorry I wasted your time... ..." after I explained that he will be stressed for figures when he has decided to apply for a sales position (and this being a 32 yr old man who has been with our Armed Forces)...I had a lady who looks and talks exactly like "Wednesday" (read my earlier post: Inheritance)... brrr...I had 6 guys who didn't call even though they were scheduled for an interview... (so much for the future of Singapore if we are to depend on such people)...I had a lady who is so boring in her talk that I almost slept in the middle of the interview...I had a gay-ish guy who I disgustingly suspect that he tried to flirt with me...I had a few who could not speak proper english, where I spent 80% of the time asking them to repeat what they had just said...I had one who wouldn't shut up and actually cut me off when I was in the middle of questioning her, maybe I was the one being interviewed... haha...Sigh...Good help are hard to find nowadays... 9 weeks into the job and I already sound like my boss...
